Child Number One: Afelicia
Utilization of pictures and books is a crucial way of enhancing the child`s perception of the world surrounding them. These materials should be made available to the reading center for both the children and the teacher for use in the informal and formal setting. Nature and science fosters experimentation and curiosity and they benefit the child through direct experience and application in other areas of learning. Math skills are also evident in this activity; they are taught efficiently through schedule, play and routine activities (University of Tennessee College of Social Work Office of Research and Public Service, 2008).
Afelicia utilizes informal language to communicate, she hugs Emma her best friend as a show of affection. Sand provides the child with the opportunity to learn ideas through active investigation with their senses. Language in the form of negotiations is used to develop reasoning skills: the children negotiate on where to place the pieces of climbing equipment.
