Description of Theory and Purpose

 The focus of this theory is learning through rewards and punishments.

 This learning theory focuses on the mind in taking in information and using it to produce an outcome.

 This theory is about the learner using his/her experiences with pre-existing knowledge to build new knowledge and learning.

 This is learning in a digital and modern age. The focus of connectivism is the integration of important knowledge amidst a chaotic network of information.

Strengths of Theory

 Behaviorism is easier to assess and regulate because it is observable.

 Cognitivism is very practical and is useful in different settings.

Constructivism encourages the development of analytical and critical thinking skills.

Connectivism is associated with the behavior of the learners in the modern world. It also values diverse knowledge and perspectives. 

Weaknesses of Theory

Behaviorism may not be applicable to other types of learning that cannot be influenced by rewards and punishments.

Cognitivism cannot observe the cause of certain behavior.

Constructivism heavily relies on previous knowledge and this varies in students resulting in a curriculum that eliminates standardized tests and grade-focused goals.

Connectivism is decentralized learning, making it difficult to set a standard outcome and instructions. It is not universal.
