Part I: Gathering Classroom Data
Directions: Allocate at least 5 hours in the field to support this field experience. Observe your mentor teacher and in collaboration with your mentor teacher review the areas below to obtain the data needed based on your mentor teacher’s class. No names should be used to protect the confidentiality of all students.

Classroom Data

The group comprised of physical education students from grades 9 to 12. The students in the classrooms came from diverse ethnic backgrounds. There were Whites, African Americans and Hispanics among others. While some looked wealthy from the way they dressed and carried themselves, others particularly those from minority groups were from poor socioeconomic surroundings. Nonetheless, the class and school in general received significant support from the local community. For instance, a local sports shop donated different sporting gear to the games department annually.

50 Words Describing Individual Students’ Learning Needs (i.e., numbers and specific needs of students who are English learners and/or who receive special education services and any other forms of diversity you encounter)

The school/ classroom was one of the pioneer in the region in terms of embracing inclusive education. As such, the school took pride in not only including children with disabilities but also speakers of minority languages. The physical education classroom in particular had 50 students with about ¾ of the population being members of minority groups. While some of these students from minority groups were proficient and conversant in English, 10 Hispanic students were severely challenged. Furthermore, there were 3 deaf students in the classroom
