Reflection on Inclusive Classrooms
Many societies around the world tend to discriminate against individuals with special needs. They are shunned by not only strangers but also family members and close friends and as such, forced to live in isolation. The same case applies to children such as Thomas with cerebral palsy who are secluded from their peers in classrooms and also at the playgrounds. Parents to these children are often overprotective and while that is understandable, they often contribute to their seclusion and isolation in society. Based on the reading, there are various take-away points that range from the benefits of inclusion of special needs children in normal classrooms and the learning environment to impacts of the initiative.
I strongly believe that including children such as Thomas with various special needs in normal classrooms will help in their growth and development. They are exposed to the same environment as other children without disabilities and will be driven to push themselves to excel not only in academics but also socially.
