Scientific Disciplines: Differences Of The Approaches

Essay Instructions:

Assignment: Rui Guo's
The purpose of this benchmark is to contrast disciplinary approaches to a common problem. For the annotated bibliography benchmark, each of you took the lead summarizing one paper. You will again take the lead discussing that same paper by sharing with the rest of your group which disciplines the scientist authors represent and how this determined their research approach (methodology). After your group has discussed the scientific disciplines and their methods, you should individually create your own written response using these prompts:
1) Identify and briefly describe the approach each discipline uses to address the climate change issue your group is investigating. You should be writing about the approaches in all the papers, not just the one you took the lead summarizing.
2) Explain how these approaches are similar and how they are different (e.g. All are using satellite data but they are analyzing that data using different methods. For example, the chemists are .....).
3) Discuss how the various disciplines work together or complement one another to advance the science.
This is an individual exercise; you should work with your group to discuss your peer-reviewed articles and ideas but put these thoughts into your own words.
Compose and save your assignment in Word (or word processor of choice) then copy and paste it into Moodle and submit.
Grading rubric:
A) Did you identify and describe the research approaches used by each discipline studying your issue/topic? No: lose up to 4 points.
B) Did you contrast the approaches using specific examples? No: lose up to 4 points.
C) Did you discuss how the disciplines are working together to advance the science? No: lose up to 4 points.
D) Did you use specific examples and references to your citations in your responses? No: lose up to 4 points.
E) Did you properly cite any references you used (in the text and in a literature cited section)? No: lose up to 4 points.
Excessive typos and grammatical errors may result in additional loss of points.

Ecologists focus on how organisms interact with the environment changes.  The ecologists highlight how land use and climate change affect birds and mammals distribution. For instance, there were changes in boreal or alpine biome because of land use between the forested and tundra areas resulting in southern species increasing and northern species increasing in the Swedish Borean land alpine ecosystem (Elmhagen, Kindberg, Hellström, & Angerbjörn, 2015). Oechel & Vourlitis (1994), focused on ecology and environmental science highlighting that the C02 concentrations has increased global and regional temperatures.  The changes in C02 and CH4 are reviewed to assess how they affect temperature changes and global warming. Environmental science addresses how natural and unnatural processes affect the environment including human integration. Barrett, Rocha, de Weg & Shaver (2012) used remote sensing to determine vegetation shifts in burned and unburned sites in Northern Alaska and the species found there.
Similarities and differences of the approaches
All the disciplines focus on changes in the environment resulting from human activities, but ecology also addresses the changes in specie distribution. For instance, changes in the ecosystems in tundra mean that some species are better adap...
