Writing is an important aspect of communication where one practices to articulate thoughts and represent ideas. Written communication that is persuasive should have sound arguments, and learning improves writing skills while reading other peoples’ work is necessary to identify flaws in arguments. As a student gets more knowledgeable on a subject, they become articulate and are better to argue their viewpoints. Even in cases where readers may have a different opinion on a subject matter, sound arguments in writing that frame an issue in a convincing manner is necessary. At the same time, the writing skills are transferable to the workplace given the need to communicate clearly to avoid misunderstandings and maintain a professional demeanor.
Critiquing other writers work is one of the skills that promote one’s ability to identify the arguments being presented in writing. Such writing lessons were important as they are intellectually rigorous requiring one to identify arguments that were fallacies and over stretched the truth. Writers should also be able to frame the inferences and facts in a way that is engaging to readers. The relevance of the writing skills is also apparent since writers use persuasive language to argue and present information without confusing the readers. In any case, with practice writers get better in explaining complex positions without causing misunderstandings.
Research requires one to gather the relevant data and information, and the writing process is then necessary to document the information to achieve coherency, based on what is most relevant to the research. Research writing has a process to developing the research question and thesis to finding sources that are relevant to the subject matter. Writing is important while summarizing, paraphrasing and documenting the sources. As such, good writing skills are relevant in research. The introduction part of research identifies the plan that helps in organizing the information as well as the focus. A writer then needs to clearly state what they intend to achieve while engaging the reader.
Research ethics is important as they provide a guideline to be followed to avoid violating the code of conduct. For instance, a research that involves participants should minimize harm, while the researcher must obtain informed consent from the research participants.
