When in a medical group, a joint venture (JV) with a hospital can be a better long-term alternative to employment for different reasons. Joint ventures help physicians offer services, harmonizing or functionally linked to their professional services (Wolper, 2013). A medical group in a joint venture also helps to supply ancillary services and items, such as pathology services. In addition, the group may offer new services to the hospital that of the parties already provide, either including outpatient surgery or radiography. According to Wolper (2013), a JV can be a long-term alternative because they operate based on several regulatory requirements by fitting into of the several safe harbors. Such safe havens include investments in medical group practices, ambulatory surgical centers, and specialty referral arrangements, among many others.
According to Wolper (2013), the governance of medical groups in a joint venture is characterized by a focused and efficient structure. Therefore, when governed properly, they can be a long-term alternative due to their professionalism and work towards organizational objectives.
