I believe it is rather surprising that am applying for transfer from the university at only my first year. I am a common law student at the University of Ottawa. Studying law at the University of Ottawa was my biggest dream. However, this has been met with challenges, which have seriously affected my studies here.
My father passed away late 2011. From the time of my father`s death, my mother and I have been going through many hardships and emotional stress. My mother ‘s situation has deteriorated into depression. She lives in Toronto and does not have someone to take care of her. Worse of this is that she does not speak English. This leaves me as the only person available to take care of her. I have to travel to Toronto every weekend to be with her. My mother`s condition is so worse that she needs me near her almost every minute and being away from her makes her condition worse.
The situation has stressed me so much that am living on anti-anxiety peels and I have to continually attend counseling sessions. The situation has also highly affected my grades very much because of the many study hours I have missed while travelling. Am very aware that to be granted this transfer I need good grades. However, my continued stay in the university will only make my grades worse and make my future profession even worse. My mother`s situation was so worse in December that I had to travel to Toronto in the middle of my exams: this is why I failed one of my courses...
