Leadership structures ensure that the organization functions as expected. An organization needs to decide on the type of structure that would enable the organization to achieve its intended objectives (Porter & Lee, 2013). Regardless of what type of structure the organization decides, the three important elements that form an ideal structure include a structure with good governance, rules of operation and structure with the distribution of work (Porter & Lee, 2013).
Governance is important because not everyone can make decisions, a group of people needs to steer the organization (Porter & Lee, 2013). Rules are an important part of an organizational leadership structure. Having rules and regulations ensures that everyone is aware of their duties and what is expected of them. Distribution of work can be formal or informal, but every organization needs to have some division of labor (Porter & Lee, 2013).
