Why the Journey to Be Oneself Seems the Riskiest
Based on the fact that life itself is one long journey full of ups and downs, it is possible to align Father Lawton’s statement with this fact. In order to define the true context of his statement about the journey to becoming oneself being the riskiest of all, it is important to recognize his earlier use of religion (he mentions God, as a major partaker in our happiness as individuals), which portrays his statement in a different light. Why? Religion has been claimed by many, as being the only way one can truly find their true destiny. Therefore, destiny according to many is the definitive factor in determining oneself. Destiny itself is influenced by many factors, bordering on life experiences, both voluntary and involuntary. Nobody is born with a certain destiny in mind, though in later years, common emotions and interest in a particular profession depict such innate desires. As such, everybody, in the course of their lives, in order to achieve their greatest potential, must at least, fulfill their destiny.
Achieving such an objective, according to Father Lawton, is what brings about the risk factor. Consider this short explanation: A person is born and as they grow start to realize how the world works. They try a hand at being tailors, mechanics, electricians etc, before discovering all along, that they were, meant to be miners. Considering all the professions mentioned that this particular person has experimented with, mining ranks low. Yet, it is the one profession, they find attracted too, and can realize their full potential. If we consider this brief explanation, then risk does not end with experimenting.
