Rural areas are the most disadvantaged regions when it comes to technological advancements and access to quality services. The rural health care, for instance, faces major setbacks that need to be addressed to ensure that all the people in remote areas get access to good quality patient care services. The main challenge facing rural health is financial instability (Bailey, 2009). The funds distributed by the government to finance health care are barely enough to provide the required medical attention to the patients. As a result, hospitals in remote areas provide substandard medical services to the patients and most of them end up succumbing to their illnesses. Additionally, the rural health workforce is insufficient and the number of trained professionals disbursed is not enough to cater for the medical needs of all the patients who seek patient care services in remote areas.
Finally, care in these areas is behind in implementing health information technology. Care providers in the countryside use outdated methods of treating patients and they have not embraced modern technology (Bailey, 2009). The people in the countryside are, therefore, forced to seek advanced medical attention in urban areas. To solve this problem, governments should allocate enough funds to facilitate the rural patient care providers and ensure that the funds are managed well. Secondly, enough nurses and doctors should be transferred to remote hospitals.
