The media has continued playing a pivotal role in influencing how and what the public thinks. In the earlier years, it was a small matter since the media didn't play such a huge role, and its relationship with politics was at most, antagonistic. Most governments in one way or another loved to hate the media due to its exposes. Currently, however, the relationship between politics and the media has quickly mellowed, and there seems to be a close mutual association between them. Through media manipulation, everything and anything that the public listens to, reads or even watch online is well designed by unseen faces behind it (Holiday, 2012).
Web-based communication, particularly the social media, sways the public depending on the degree of bias. Quite naturally, it is the duty of the media to keep the public informed and updated about the day to day events within their locality or around the world. In politics, however, the media also has the distinct power to either build or tear down a person's reputation. A political figure's image can be significantly enhanced or massively messed up, depending on how the media presents him or her to the public. The manner in which it is done usually aims at generating opinions from the public over the same, either in a good or bad light.
In the United States, for example, there is indeed a strong media representation especially by the current government and the evolution of politics. Many voters are now opting for web-based communication as the best way to follow up on their leaders or political candidates since they cite it as the easiest and most reliable method of accessing such information.
