Relationship Between Eating Disorders and Body Image

Essay Instructions:

Assignments should be written in 12 point size with margins of 1 inch and double-spaced, using APA.
Assignment One: Media Analysis: Socio-cultural Issues and Eating Disorders.
You are to find one print advertisement and one music video and critique each, with each critique being 1-1.5 pages each. You will be commenting on what messages the advertisement and video convey in terms of body image and eating. Following these, you will write a 4 page reflection about the relationship between eating disorders and western culture at large. Since this is a reflection, you will be sharing your own ideas (feel free to back up your opinions with references, but these are not needed). You will be marked on your ability to logically and clearly describe your opinion.
this is more description about the assignment:
In terms of a rubric for the first assignment, I hesitate to offer one due to my fears that it might not only cause more anxiety, but create conditions for students to take fewer risks in their ideas. But it's only fair that you have a bit more information on how I will be marking it.
While I totally understand that earning marks is a goal for students, and obviously you want to do well, I also want students to engage in their thought-processes as deep as possible, and offer those thoughts as the real goal for assignments. Also, being a reflective paper/analysis, it is a bit difficult to list a strict rubric, so I encourage you to offer your thoughts on the video/ad/society at large, and do your best to thoroughly discuss your thoughts in the 7 pages allowed for the assignment.
The goal behind this assignment is to encourage the student to engage in reflection about the impact of societal ideas on body image and eating disorders. As such, the marking for this assignment will reflect the student's ability to demonstrate that reflection. For this paper, I will be marking on clarity (Is the student able to clearly describe their ideas? Do their ideas make sense?), depth of insights (Is the student merely stating their ideas broadly, or are they working to thoroughly explain their ideas and how they came to them?), evidence of reflection (Does the student appear to be asking difficult questions? Does the student appear to be examining their ideas and trying to figure out different ways of analyzing their ideas and experiences?), and grammar (Spelling, punctuation, sentence-structure, etc). Some leniency will be given in this assignment due to the fact that the assignment reflects the student's ideas and experiences. Really, for this paper, I would encourage you to write about your experiences and thoughts with as much freedom as you feel comfortable, while demonstrating to me that you have asked or are asking yourself difficult and challenging questions regarding your experience of how society impacts eating disorders.
Note that I am also not looking for a 'right' answer in this paper, but am interested in your ideas and how you analyze them in light of how you interpret society's impacts on eating disorders.
A mark in the A range would represent work from a student that has gone beyond the reasonable expectations (in terms of originality in thought, depth of analysis, and overall writing skills) of a Second-Year student submitting written work. This student would state their ideas very clearly, and offer in-depth analysis (even within 7 pages), explaining their ideas thoroughly and looking at their ideas from multiple perspectives.
A mark in the B range would represent work that meets the expectations of a Second-Year student. This student would state their ideas and reflections relatively clearly, and provide the beginning of an analysis of their ideas.
A student achieves a lower mark would have significant issues in their writing (grammar, formatting, etc), structure of their explanations of their ideas, and/or other major issues with the paper.
You are welcome to write in first-person for this assignment ("I", "me") and don't forget to paste the URL of the music video and the image into your paper somewhere (I'm not picky where) so I can see what you are writing about.

Relationship Between Eating Disorders and Body Image. Student’s Name University Affiliation Critique of McDonald Print Advert. McDonald is a renowned company that manufactures junk food such as fried chicken, French Fries, sausages and many others. I will critique one of its print commercials which relates to the topic where it shows the world famous NBA superstar, LeBron James and his colleague, Dwight Howard, participating in a rim dunk contest but in real sense, the players are marketing or promoting McDonalds. This is an ideal calculated tactic of consumerism where the company creates an illusion that in turn, the viewers will have the perception that LeBron James always eats at McDonalds, and that that is where he and the other players get their perfect bodies. My argument is that although the company has invested so much money in to making the advert and being one of the biggest revenue earners of the company, the ad is wrong and misleading. This is primarily because while the main goal of McDonalds is to make money, the advert is solely misleading people especially the young who will start to think that eating junk food is essential and body building, when in real sense, eating the food will only cause eating disorder. This is a case where the media uses world’s biggest personalities, superstars and influencers for profit. However, when it comes to matters dealing with food and eating, that should be prohibited because the world right now is full of people facing problems related to eating disorders, hence portraying them as unfit in the society. Another limitation of the advert is related to the problems associated with junk food. Junk food would never help an individual stay fit and healthy because of the huge account of fat and cholesterol that they contain. However, because children and young adults have seen superstars advertising the food, they will resort to them and the result will be nothing short of body dissatisfaction due to the eating disorders and the view that their body image has been degenerated. There are many other things wrong with the advert and the problems that it might unknowingly or knowingly cause on the lovers of sports and people who appreciate LeBron James. Therefore, to avoid the many problems related to junk food such as overweight, obesity, memory loss, dementia and many others, the media should play its official role and stop that kind of misleading people. McDonald should be abolished from creating print adverts that will only yield the country befalling in to a nation with eating disorders and citizens who are not confident with their bodies. These music videos create a deception of scantily dressed female models whose presence are an epitome of ultra-thin sociocultural ideal culture for girls and women watching them. The music video that I focus on in this segment of the text is a Hip Hop song called ‘I Get the Bag' released in 2018 by a renowned rapper and a group of three rappers in the US (‘I Get the Bag’ Music Video) Hip Hop and rap music has been known for its stereotyping of women and degra...
