In my workplace, one of the things that I usually notice after I learned about the models of communication is that conversations are almost always circular as well as fluid. What this means is that, during the process where two human beings interact with each other, the sender in one part of the communication process would surely be the receiver in the next part. This is what I’ve noticed since most of the time any type of communication that is sent by a colleague or my boss, whether verbal or physical, would then be reciprocated by the receiver by sending another message as a response. In my opinion, small gestures such as nodding one’s head or even utter silence are considered as responses towards the primary sender, which then makes him the secondary receiver. By using Transactional Model of Communication, this circular process is also called a “transaction” (Businesstopia.net, n.d.). According to this model, each actor in the communication process is not merely a sender or a receiver but always a sender-receiver. One particular event that I’ve experienced in my workplace that demonstrates this is my birthday. By that time, almost everybody that I encounter greets me a happy birthday and I either say “thanks” or smile at them in return. In those particular circumstances, I realize that when they greet me, I become a receiver.
