US Local News in Recent Years: Influences on Changes
Local means local. For long decades, local news has been critical to inform and entertain public. By definition, news means news, meaning that readers are always seeking information about matters of utmost interest. In local/regional news coverage, immediate interests are properly covered by informed community reporters. Understandably, national and international news could be of a passing interest for local/regional readers. However, local/regional readers always have a vested interest to know and to hold local officials accountable. The development of journalism has, however, almost dismissed local/regional news as less “worthy” compared to national and international news.
