It’s safe to say that social media has transformed the way journalists gather, produce, distribute or break news. Robert Hernandez is a good example of that. He was trying to find a YouTube video of the Bahrain protests. Robert made the wise and careful use of filters in order to find relevant videos and then sorted out the most recent uploads. The top results were uploaded a few minutes ago and had not received any views, so Robert Hernandez began viewing the latest video which was made by an unknown person using a cell phone (Opgenhaffen & Scheerlinck, 2014). This video showed a protester who got killed. In the absence of social media, the death of this person could have remained unrecorded and unnoticed.
