John Fords’ Stagecoach of 1939 is a movie that tries to reflect the realities of the time in the country. The nation was just coming out of the economic depression of the 30s. While most of the films during this time were majorly focused on entertainment, this one captured the real happenings within the then society. Its subversive code usage is a leaf borrowed from the tough economic times caused by the depression. Its mix of tradition and modernity is done meticulously to serve two purposes, keep up the American morale, while also capturing real issues on the ground.
