Andrea used an accommodating conflict management style. In an accommodating conflict style, one puts other people's needs first to avoid unnecessary conflict (Kay & Skarlicki, 2020). In this conflict style, one is not bothered about the issue as the other party dictates their desires and needs. When Max demanded that Andrea start the meeting immediately, she thanked him and started the meeting without disagreements. Therefore, this scenario indicates that Andrea used a compromising conflict style to solve any disputes that may emerge.
Max used a competing conflict management style. Notably, this conflict style is when an individual is firm in handling a particular situation until they achieve it (Raines, 2019). In addition, this style also entails putting one's desires over others, including being uncooperative and assertive. Max was unhappy when Mr Sutherland chose Andrea as chair and aimed at making her swallow her pride. Besides, Andrea believed that the group was influenced and therefore assumed the role of the chair to open the meeting, indicating that he had opposing views.
