Unlike between-subject or between-groups design, within-subject research designs or repeated-measures designs involve the same individual testing all variables or conditions in an experiment. Between-group designs involve different persons testing each variable in an experiment so that every single individual is only exposed to one user interface (Abdi, Edelman, Valentin & Dowling, 2009). This classification is important when comparing several user interfaces in one study and these are the ways of assigning test subjects to multiple variables.
For example, when comparing two baby lotion products A and B by looking at how consumers buy the two, the study can be designed using the two methods.
