Corporate social responsibility is an important aspect for companies who make it part of their mission to do good. As part of corporate social responsibility, organizations engage in non-profit practices for the benefit of the community. Although such practices are non-profit, the company’s corporate social responsibility can help in building consumer trust and recruitment practices.
Medline is among the top companies that have shown dedication to social responsibility by making efforts towards contributing to the international sustainability development plan initiated by the United Nations. The firm’s CSR is guided by the fact that private organizations can positively contribute to global and local sustainable development (Medline, 2018). Medline’s CSR focus is in areas such as charitable giving, breast cancer awareness, environmental initiatives, and labor and human rights (Medline, 2018). The success of the company’s CSR has been contributed by the integration of the activities with the company’s strategy. Medline’s focus over the past few years has been to achieve financial and sales growth through new product development and recruiting new staff to meet the growing demand. Furthermore, by focusing on CSR initiatives such as breast cancer awareness, human rights, and the environment, the company has managed to build consumer trust since its potential customers are greatly concerned about such issues. Moreover, during the recruitment process, the company was able to hire individuals who share similar concerns for CSR, which facilitated the implementation of the CSR strategies. The success of Medline’s CSR can also be attributed to the alignment of the CSR strategies to the company’s vision and mission. Medline is committed to improving the quality of people’s lives; part of the firm’s value is to stay committed to customers and take the necessary action to improve customers’ lives (Medline, 2018). By focusing on areas such as breast cancer awareness and human rights, Medline is able to actively push towards achieving its company’s mission and values, which reflect on the company’s commitment. The success of Medline’s CSR can be gauged by its impact on the overall success of the business. Since the implementation of CSR initiatives, Medline has managed to adhere to the regulatory requirements and developments, which enabled the company to reduce risks, build more trust with potential customers, and create new opportunities for the company. Since the company is widely known for distributing medical products and equipment used to improve people’s lives, a focus on breast cancer awareness has also helped in building consumer trust by showing how the company cares for its clients. Similarly, the environmental initiatives undertaken by Medline have contributed to the overall agenda of the United Nations, which has helped the company gain global recognition as one of the many companies which have made an effort towards conserving the environment.
Walmart provides a different scenario with regards to CSR. The American retailer has been accused of various violations, including crimes against the environment, violating human rights
