The impact of changes within a complex adaptive system
According to (Scheinder & Somers, 2006), new models of leadership have evolved over time, relying less on managerial authority while highlighting more on ideas from biological, social and physical sciences in the form of Complexity Theory. Complex systems have interconnected parts that have one or more than property (ies). Adaptation and evolution are two aspects which show the likelihood of organizations changing. The Verizon wireless adoption of complex systems is likely encouraging the organizational leadership to adapt to the network changes. Nonetheless, this is likely to have random effects on the organization, since the leadership will have assessed the viability of the option before its adoption.
As a telecom service provider, Verizon Wireless, the network infrastructure equipments as well as enterprises and end users might be affected directly by the complex adaptive system. The disequilibrium state emerging following the adoption of complex systems at the Verizon Wireless from within the company, but also changes that affect the entire organization the opportunity from adopting facilitates the emergent change processes, allowing the leadership then to take action to create value related to the new changes. Before the workforce gets used to the complex adaptive system at the company, there will be disorganization, with people likely to resist change because of being unfamiliar with the system. However, over time, the leadership improves its adoption through focusing more on the adaptable aspects which will be better fitted for Verizon Wireless. There will be increased individual utility, but there is a need to determine the threshold for which members are also comfortable working interdependently
