Having a mission and vision in life drives us to long-term success. We all need to have a mission and vision to provide a sense of direction, intention, focus, and conviction. According to Power (2016), mission statement plays an important role in personal and leadership development. Through a personal mission statement, one is able to express their deepest aspirations and values. It thus helps in imprinting these values and inspirations in our minds such that they become part of us. It this regards, it can help us easily make decisions when we are faced with difficult situations. As informed by Steinbrecher (2014), having a mission can provide awareness about one’s ‘future’ self. It is thus essential that we take the time to develop a mission and a vision that guides us to long-term success.
My mission is to further my knowledge every day through reading books, research, taking classes in order to gain respect from friends, family, and my community and make a difference. The coming weeks are going to eventful and interesting for me because I have the chance to further my knowledge, particularly in quantitative decision making. It is thus going to be a great opportunity to fulfill part of my long-term mission. It is my expectation that after the eight weeks of learning about quantitative decision making, I will be in a better position to address dilemmas that I face in life. I expect to learn how to decide on which course of action to take when face with a number of choices. In addition, I expect to gather insight into the decision criteria for different situations.
