1 What are some general notions related to dealing with “stuff” that are applicable to the applied art of warehouse management?
Inefficiency happens in all organizations. Sometimes they start with empty big stores and they start filling it as the company grows. However, the company concentrates its effort on other aspects such as generating more sales and forgets about the warehouse. Before long, the warehouse gets full but its space is wasted and the company has a lot of unutilized potentials.
Warehouse management is part of the supply chain management where the warehouses provide locations for receiving, storing and distributing products. Once the products arrive at the warehouse, they are identified, sorted and dispatched to their exact storage locations in the store. First, security and environmental measures are taken into consideration to preserve the integrity and usefulness of the products. Storage is a crucial in warehouse and is considered to be the core function of the warehouse. In simple terms, the warehouse provides a location where the goods and materials are stored. The storage function of the warehouse is one of the notions that is applied to warehousing.
Storing products and materials in the warehouse is believed to add value to them. Some products such as wine are believed to add their value when they are stored for long. Therefore, value addition is another notion that is applicable to warehousing. Reducing the number of cycles and overall inventories is among the objectives of warehousing (Arshina, 2011)....
