Ethnocentric is a staffing policy that is utilized by organizations that have global operations. The policy entails the head office recruiting employees and then posting them to the host nations. The best approach where this policy is used is a scenario where a team is trained in the headquarters, then sent to initiate a new plant as well as offer training to the support staff on how to utilize the new system. The main advantage of using this type of staffing is that it gives the workers an opportunity to acquire international experiences. This catapults them to a higher level in management at the central office since international managers need a wide viewpoint and global exposure (Tiwari, 2013).
On its part, polycentric staffing involves recruiting and promoting employees from the host nation where the branch is located. This approach is often used in scenarios where an organization wants cheap labor as international employees might be expensive to hire. This is also appropriate as employees hired at the branch level have an understanding of the host environment, and this makes it easy for them to adapt to the culture (Tiwari, 2013).
On its part, geocentric staffing is utilized when an organization has transnational operations. This approach is utilized when an organization is focused on having its best personnel to work at a new branch. This approach entails selecting personnel from different regions on the basis of their talent (Tiwari, 2013).
