Walmart Company is an American multinational company that deals with a chain stores and hypermarkets. Its headquarters are based in Bentonville, Arkansas. Walmart provides several consumable goods like electronics, cameras, light bulbs, sliced bread, frozen vegetables, canned foods, trash bags, meat pies, photo processing services, and other grocery products. Walmart offers over 60 million products.
Impact of External Factors to Walmart
Walmart activities can be influenced by several external economic factors either directly or indirectly. The influence may consequently lead to either an increase or a decrease in profits or revenues. Examples of these economic factors can be cost of labour, the sustained growth of developing countries like Mexico, Turkey, Malaysia, and others, and lastly stability of major economies among other factors. These growing economies can pose a high demand of goods and services from the stores of Walmart. This can result to increased sales in Walmart within a fiscal year. The cost of labour can affect greatly the revenues for Walmart, in this case increasing the salaries of the employees due to criticism of paying workers low wages may lead to a decrease in the earnings of Walmart.
Political factors also can affect Walmart Company greatly. Some of these political factors can be the stability of politics, political support for globalization, and political threats for higher wages. Walmart Company should be involved in political debates and government activities that create opportunities or threats that can affect its success. The Company can interfere with politics because it is massive and essential to the economy of the United States (Wlkel and Feinberg, 2016). This can help it to achieve a positive political impact in business. In the past, Walmart has been supporting Republican Candidates who support the pro-business conservatives. It has always been ranked in topmost political donors. In some notable debate, Walmart opposed religious freedom laws arguing that they would open the way for discrimination of their gay and lesbian customers. The government refused to sign the legislation.
Stakeholder’s Impact on The Company
Stakeholders have always had an increased influence on Company’s activities, objectives, policies, and actions. Walmart stakeholders include government, creditors, investors, employees, suppliers, community, customers, business partners, and Competitors. All these stakeholders depending on their influence, can lead to increased or reduced earnings or revenue for Walmart. Below are ways in which various stakeholders affect the Company as a whole.
Walmart Investors, like in all other organizations, are mainly interested in the profits. Some of the Walmart investors include BlackRock Fund Advisors, Fidelity Management & Research co., and Fisher Asset Management LLC, among others. These investors are encouraged to allocate capital to the investment because they have been receiving huge returns.
