Leadership is a process of defining, and enacting, societal values and providing consolidating influences about change processes. Thus, a leader assumes the role of "stewardship," embracing the securing of social, political and economic futures. For business, leadership entails having the ability to influence the trajectory of change, and indeed the expectations that each employee should meet to attain the set targets. Leadership is, therefore, considered as an emergent phenomenon that creates a definitional distinction between actors and process so as to provide new insights (Taylor & Lynham, 2013). I agree with the definition provided because the society has all the resources needed to develop but unless there is someone to influence their actions change cannot take place.

Some of the leadership models developed 20 to 30 years ago are not appropriate for today because the world operates as a global village. We live in a globalized environment and hence any model of leadership we select needs to be suitable for and needs to work in today's global environment and society. The development of many of our historical leadership models relied on domestic perspectives. That is, the research that led to their development took place in one country. And often the researchers involved were from that particular country or culture. That implies that most of the leadership models developed in olden days cannot work in global corporations that have branches in different continents (Luis, Maria & Francisco, 2011). However, these models are still appropriate today when dealing with emergency situations in the organization.
Traditional leadership models are meant to achieve short-term objectives and hence when confronted with unexpected eventualities business enterprises would opt to use these leadership models to solve the crisis. For example, Social enterprises provide the hope of financial sustainability to organizations that have the ability to respond to the world's most pressing problems. For social enterprises to succeed, their leaders must use old leadership models to manage conflicting demands that result from dual commitments to improving social welfare and achieving commercial viability (Smith, et al., 2012).
