In the article, Shih (2020) highlighted that the COVID-19 disrupted the globalized supply chains because of the close links with China, the major manufacturing hub. I agree with the author on the need for rethinking the global supply chains as there are more risks, threats, and vulnerabilities of the globalized supply chain. Countries were heavily reliant on supply chains linked to China, and there is a need for more strategic sourcing, including at the regional level and from different sources. The acute shortage of supplies worsened during the pandemic because it has been challenging to ensure the supply chain is resilient. Shortening the globalized supply chain, increasing flexibility and being more diversified will improve resilience in the supply chain networks. Rigidities in the globalized supply chains are one of the reasons for supply chain disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
