Module 6 Reflection Assignment. Consider the case provided

Essay Instructions:

Consider the following case:
A manager is at a meeting with the in-house counsel of the firm for which you work. The Americans with Disabilities Act legally requires employers to make “reasonable accommodations” for workers with disabilities. The law goes on to specify some, but not all, of the conditions that constitute a disability. The manager has an employee who suffers from asthma and is wondering if asthma is a disability. The two attorneys confer for a moment and answer simply: “It depends.” The law’s definition of a disability involves, in part, how serious the disability is, how much it limits the worker’s life activities, and whether or not it is easily corrected by medication. The manager is committed to doing the ethically correct thing, but you believe that it is one’s ethical responsibility to obey the law. In such a case, the decision is unavoidable, the law doesn’t help, and as a manager you are forced to make a judgment about what ought to be done.
You decide to consult with the zombified but lucid corpse of Albert Carr. What would Carr suggest the manager should do? On what basis would Carr reach this conclusion? Do you agree with this suggestion, or does your judgment differ? Explain what you would do and why.
Suggested Format
These reflection assignments are meant to help you develop ideas, issues and questions to contribute to the class. Unlike formal papers, they do not have to defend a thesis, though they may. They may also have a personal (“I think”) and searching (“maybe”) quality to them. They must, however, demonstrate that you have engaged in a close reading of the assigned material. You must quote and analyze specific passages from the reading and use parenthetical page references.
Here is a suggested format to follow in these reflection papers:
a. in the first paragraph, introduce a specific issue, problem or question that the reading raises for you with respect to the case scenario
b. in two to four paragraphs, use specific evidence from the text, including quoted passages, to develop your thoughts about how the larger reading helps you address this issue, question or problem (use parenthetical page references)
c. in a final paragraph, sum up what you have learned from engaging the text in this way—for example, what you now think in response to your opening question or problem, or what new questions or issues your analysis has raised for you
Formal Requirements
a. Include your name, the due date, the name and section of the course (e.g., ECO-172 Principles of Macroeconomics), and the title of the assignment (e.g., Module 10 Reflection Assignment)
b. Your assignment must be typed, double-spaced, use 12-pt. font, and display 1-inch margins on all sides
c. Spell-check and grammar-check your work. Misspellings, typographical errors and inconsistencies, and referencing problems need to be addressed before you submit your work
d. Direct quotes and paraphrases must be cited appropriately
e. Your assignment should be no less than 500 and no more than 800 words in length (i.e., 2-3 pages)
f. Include a word count at the end of your assignment
g. Your assignment must include at least one direct quote from any of the readings mentioned in the prompt

You decide to consult with the zombified but lucid corpse of Albert Carr. What would Carr suggest the manager should do? On what basis would Carr reach this conclusion? Do you agree with this suggestion, or does your judgment differ? Explain what you would do and why.
The case study under review is quite common in business quarters. Many managers find themselves in situations where the law is limited in its definition of what constitutes, for example, a disability like in this case. In the case under review, the law requires employers to make reasonable accommodations for workers with disabilities. However, it is limited in what it defines and qualifies as a disability. A condition like asthma could pass in other places as a disability because it limits a worker’s life activities. Managers are expected to abide by the law at all times. However, in this case, the law is not specific and leaves its interpretation to the manager and his attorneys. I foresee a problem here because regardless of the direction the manager takes, he cannot be adjudged to have acted against the law because the law is unclear when it comes to a condition like asthma. So, it is all in the hands of the manager regardless of what ethical practices one abides by, the manager cannot be faulted.
Invoking Albert Carr, in such a situation will most likely lead the manager in making a decision that best suits the business while neglecting any ethical or moral responsibilities. Carr believed there existed a business game, and in this game, nothing was off the table. I believe the first thing Carr would suggest to the manager would be to separate their personal feelings from the situation. He wrote that “the business strategist’s decisions must be as impersonal as those of a surgeon performing an oper...
