Physician credentialing revolves around the collection of information to assess the qualifications of medical before an appointment. Delineation of privileges is the procedures and services undertaken to evaluate that the medical staff is qualified to perform (Smith, 2006). The credentialing process forms the basis or making decisions on appointment and membership of the medical professionals as well as the recommendation of privileges. As such, information such as training experience and data on qualification including licensure needs to be provided (Smith, 2006). The credentialing and privileging process will focus on verifying the credentials and competence and the delineation of privileges will follow. After verification and assessment, the successful candidates are either appointed or reappointed (Smith, 2006). The steps are in a two-tier system as follows
Credentialing
The first step is to complete the applications that are to be submitted to the medical department.
The next step is then to verify the credentials.
The evaluation then takes into account the core competencies that have already been completed.
