When it comes to matters of health and nutrition, the Chinese are regarded as one of the most health cognizant population in the world compared to other countries. This new trend towards health awareness has been recognized so profoundly that even developed western and European countries cannot comprehend this urge. From several surveys conducted by researchers, it was discovered that more than 70% of the Chinese population would make sacrifices and pay extra for food and health products that were categorized as healthier ("Health and Wellness Trends in China", 2011). Other than seeking health and wellness the Chinese people desire beauty, happiness and more than enough energy for their demanding lifestyle. With this in mind, it is sufficient to conclude that the US created a marketing campaign for a line of health and wellness products would not only sell but would become the next trillion-dollar industry as it addresses most if not all the needs of the Chinese people.
Before the year 2012, a survey showed that health and nutrition products were ranked 11 out of 15, by what the Chinese consumers were planning to spend on. As of 2013, its position significantly moved up to the second position indicating the availability and willingness of the population to spend on this health and wellness products ("Health and Wellness Trends in China", 2011). It is estimated that with this trend continuing, the health sector (such as over-the-counter drugs) is to exponentially grow, reaching the 60-billion-dollar mark before the year 2020 and double with increased awareness ("Health and Wellness Trends in China", 2011). This will be fueled by the rise in income for the middle-class Chinese citizen and the desire of the few prosperous citizens making the current shifts in the market.
