These problems have led to the collapse of many organizations. The disruption slows down economic growth resulting in a financial crisis in the affected countries. For example, the United States underwent a financial crisis period in 2008 due to the prevalence of mental health problems among the working population in the country (Giorgi et al., 2015). Various steps like training should be taken to help in improving the occupational input and outcome for people suffering from mental disorders. Mental health is essential in the workplace, and the necessary initiatives should be taken to prevent mental disorders among workers to ensure the creation of a healthy working environment and avoid the negative impacts of the problems in the setting.
Mental health problems affect the working population profoundly. Consequently, the impact affects the workplace negatively. For instance, fear and panic in the United States' working demographic ensued in an extreme economic crisis in 2008 (Giorgi et al., 2015). The impact of mental health disorders affects people at the age of 20-30years. According to Milligan-Saville et al. (2017), the population is affected by mood and substance use, yielding discomfort, and poor focus at work. The workers find themselves in difficult situations resulting in either unfinished or completely undone tasks at work. Consequently, most organizations end up in losses in such circumstances since they cannot meet their target in operations.
Mental disorders pose a profound cost burden to workers in the United States. Goetzel et al. (2018) argue that the cost of treating the illnesses has risen to the extent of exceeding the treatment of chronic diseases such as cancer, stroke, and heart disease, with an expenditure of more than $200 billion per year. “Approximately one-third of the mental health cost burden is related to productivity losses, including unemployment, disability, and lower work performance" (Goetzel et al., 2018).
