McDonald’s is currently the largest food service chain in the world. It operates in more than 100 countries across the world and serves over 1.9 million customers. The US-based company has established McDonald’s restaurants and franchisees in Europe, Asia pacific, Africa, Middle East, North America, and Latin America. The brand also owns over 36,000 restaurants in different markets across the world, with 80% being franchised while the rest are owned by the company. Although McDonald’s has been successful in the markets it faces various socio-culture, political, ethical, and legal challenges due to differences between the market conditions in the US and in the foreign country.

In the film ‘Super Me’, Morgan Spurlock sought to create awareness on healthy eating by eating from McDonald’s for 30 days. As a result, the consumers became more cautious, especially those who had been doing a fast food diet. The documentary associated fast food with various health issues like depression, liver disorder, and loss of sexual interests. This greatly affected sales volumes of the supersize meal option even beyond the US, especially in the UK. Eventually, the company removed the supersize meal from its menu in 2001 and also eliminated the meal from all other countries.
