Knowledge management infers to approaches that organizations use in gathering, organizing, refining, and distributing knowledge with the aim of increasing the innovative and responsive nature of an organization (Wen-Lung, Shu-Yi, & Yu-Cheng, 2015). The knowledge primarily managed undergoes a process associated with identifying, sharing, and creating knowledge through a process that requires the maintenance of knowledge repositories. This paper, therefore, seeks to determine the manner in which knowledge can be gathered and four ways to collect and distribute such knowledge.
Knowledge Collection from a Personal and Undocumented Expertise
Knowledge acquisition may not be a very easy task for most organizations. This process includes the identification of knowledge, expressing the attained knowledge in a suitable manner that ensures it is well structured and transferred (Wen-Lung, et.al). It is essential to note that the experiences and expertise of an organization’s employees can be acquired through a process that involves the documentation of their experiences.
This approach, therefore, requires the documentation of their best experiences through frequently asked questions. An organization also has the capacity to develop a referral system that provides a way through which employees can determine experts for solutions they are seeking (Wen-Lung, et.al). Commercial software is also available for an organization that provides a knowledge network system.
The Knowledge Network systems are ideal for an organization since they help in the management of problems that may arise in situations where knowledge is required. However, the only challenge that arises is in the fact that unlike the traditional methods of handling such problems, the documentation method ensures that knowledge primarily lies on the head of the professional or the expert (Wen-Lung, et.al).
