Main Challenges in Lodging and Hospitality Industry

1) Each assignment requires you to write a one page abstract based upon an article you have read in a hospitality/tourism trade journal. A trade journal is a magazine that isdirected to professionals in the industry. A trade journal is not a general interest magazine such as Time, Newsweek, or Bon Appetit. Examples of sometrade journals are as follows:•Travel Weekly•Nation’s Restaurant News•Lodging•Meetings and Conventions•Lodging HospitalityThese and many other journals can be found in the library or on their respective websites. If you are still unsure of what a trade journal is, ask! 2) After you have identified a trade journal, skim through the articles in the issue. Then, pick one that you feel is appropriate and relevant to the issues that have been discussed in class. It may be about any aspect of the industry, as long as it relates. The article must be no older than 24 months.3) After you have chosen an article in the proper category, you are to complete the written portion of the assignment which is composed of three parts. These are as follows:•The abstract. An abstract is a short summation of the main points made in the article. It should be short, to the point, and written in your own words. Do not take quotes directly from the article (or, if you do, limit them and properly reference them). As a general rule, the abstract should be about one paragraph in length for every page in the article. Limit this portion of theassignment to one type-written page.•Closing statement. The third portion requires you to write one-page about the significance of the article. You may discuss why you found it particularly relevant, how it relates to your work, and/or how it relates to the lecture material. This is perhaps the most important part of the assignment. Make it meaningful.•The citation. This should appear at the bottom of the last page and contains all of the information about the author, article, and journal. Include the name of the author, the date and issue number of the journal, the name of the journal and the name of the article, and the page numbers of the article.
