Introduction
Leadership in the article has been defined as ‘the process of influencing and organizing a group in order to accomplish the goals of that group’ (Yuki, 2013). The leader as described is not exclusive in the leadership process but an interaction exists between the leader, his followers and the situation at which they interact. Every Leader has a leadership style adopted based on the prevailing situation and the end focus that the leader has in mind. There are various differences inherent in the different leadership approaches.
Leadership Styles
A transactional leader as the name suggests approaches followers with a transactional eye. According to Hellriegel & Slocum (2011), they aim at exchanging one thing for another. They pursue a cost benefit, economic exchange to meet their attendant’s current material and cognitive needs in return for "contracted" services. Transactional Leadership is a style of leadership that uses the bases of conditions between a leader and his or her follower.
