Deontological Perspective to Resolving Issues of Decision-Making
In any society, there are certain moral standards set, which are widely accepted by many people. For example, dishonesty is not acceptable universally. Deontological approach emphasizes on the importance of how people treat others especially their primary stakeholders. Using deontological perspective, companies need to set out principles that define behavior appropriateness in all situations; these should be part of employee’s duties. The principles should be universally accepted. There are certain moral standards set by society that should be considered when making decisions. For example, dishonesty is not universally accepted. Therefore using this principle based approach, it is required that customers and employees be treated equally, meaning that fairness should prevail in any decision making process by the company; for example, in business perspective, deontological approach can be applied by ensuring that businesses adhere to contractual obligation especially for employees (Carroll & Buchholtz, 2000).
Employees should be compensated based on their performance. Furthermore, price of product and services should reflect their quality. In case of compensation in business, involved parties affected by any loss or damage should be given their dues as part of compensation, meaning that employees be treated equally. In marketing where an organization has the obligation to serve vulnerable groups like children and the elderly, it means that the organization should not take advantage of the situation to maximize on profit. The end and the means should be both moral, meaning that justice should prevail (Carroll & Buchholtz, 2000).
Utilitarianism Perspective to Resolving Issues of Decision Making
Utilitarianism approach application requires that when the outcome is desirable my many it is considered moral. Therefore, in decision making, moral choices are viewed by calculating benefits and costs of all the options available before acting, commonly referred to as “the end justifies the means” (Koehn, 2001).
