(2014). Project management: The managerial process with MS project (6th ed.). Boston: McGraw-Hill Irwin.), as well as five sources from the internet or online library to support your views. It is recommended to use examples from your professional experience where possible, or build from your learning in the discussion boards. Introduction
A project is a temporal but unique endeavor aimed at achieving certain projected goals. For a project to be successful, the objectives outlined must be achieved in full and within the stipulated timeframe and budget. Organizing and completing a project successfully requires careful planning. Project management, therefore is the process of applying skills, knowledge and methods in order to realize the projected goals or objectives. For a long time, project management had remained informal and was applied by a few organizations. However, in the 21st century, project management has been an integral part of running organizations. As such, it has since been incorporated in organizational structures and is now seen to play a central role towards the achievement of projected goals. In this paper, the role of project management in the business world has been discussed at length. Further, project cycle management has also been discussed and its importance in organizational set up.
Thesis Statement
Project management plays an integral role in the business world and contributes towards successful achievement of projected goals.
Project Management Cycle
Initiation
Project management takes place in systematic phases. It is a strategic process that must move in a systematic way to ensure that all the projected goals are realized. The first step in the cycle is the initiation process. This is very beginning of any project and involves identification of a particular need or the specific objective that is to be achieved. In a business set up, this stage involves identification of a gap or an actual problem in the market. It could also involve identifying opportunities that could increase profitability of the business. Upon identification, then a response that is considered appropriate is put down and possible solutions given. What follows is a study aimed at investigating all the options given. This investigation will help establish whether these options are practical and whether they are likely to provide solutions to the problem presented. It is at this stage that the feasibility of the project is assessed to examine how practical it is and whether there it should be pursued other (Richman, 2011). This is the justification stage and will determine whether to proceed to the next stage. If approved, the project is ready to take off and a manager is assigned to head it. It is at this stage that deliverables are identified and the project moves to the next stage.
Planning
This is the next stage in project management and involves the actual development of the solution to the problem identified. This phase is more detailed and all the steps that are crucial towards achievement of the project’s success are well outlined. There is a specific team that is appointed to work on the project. At this point, the team identifies what the project will entail, the time it will take to complete and all the factors to be considered to ensure a successful project.
