Nurses are servant leaders who serve those that they lead, where service is the foundation of nursing leadership. The experience reaffirmed that improving patient care, catering to patient needs and holistic care provision. There are opportunities to work more closely with patients and their families to demonstrate the importance of servant leadership. The practicum was important to developing my leadership skills from being a learner to a leader, with guidance that are applied in the workplace. Servant leaders have power and authority to influence changes, but they achieve more when they empower their followers (DelHousaye & Brewer, 2004). There is also need to show purpose when in a leading position, to articulate a vision makes it easier to achieve the set objectives, while inspiring.
