In any economic and political system, it is typical to have certain rules and regulations that govern the operations of companies. To this end in the U.S for example, there are various levels of regulation for companies. However, before delving into the examples of companies that are most and least regulated respectively, it is important to understand what the meaning of regulation is. As the term suggests, regulation simply means to have some degree of control or influence, in relation to certain laid down sets of specifications or requirements. There are companies that are under much regulation, while some have less stringent federal regulations, as is going to be discussed.
The petroleum and coal products industry is certainly one of the most regulated by the federal government (McLaughlin & Sherouse, 2016). This sector has companies such as Shell and Total. The stringent regulations for this sector are mainly as a result of the environmental impact that the sector has.
