Introduction
During the first week of the experiment, I measured the amount of waste I generated. The total amount of waste was 5.18 kg. A larger proportion of the waste was left-overs. In the second week of the experiment, I decided to reduce the amount of waste I generated. Initially, I set a goal for zero-waste but realized that I may not achieve the goal. Hence, I decided to reduce the waste in half. While it appeared impossible, I managed to reach the goal. At the end of the second week, the total amount of waste I generated was 2.36, which was slightly less than half. I donated 20 Canadian Dollar to the Ontario Waste Management Association to boost their efforts to control waste. Additionally, I volunteered in an exercise in our neighborhood that involved collecting plastics and other wastes. Lastly, instead of disposing of books and magazines that I do not use, I decided to identify individuals who may need them. I managed to donate books and magazines to the nearby school.
The experience has enabled me to understand that it is possible to control waste. Given that I managed to reduce waste by more than half in one week, I can manage to achieve zero-waste in the subsequent weeks. The experience enabled me to develop a positive attitude towards the conservation of the environment. When I volunteered in the cleaning exercise, I learned the essence of protecting the environment. I learned that I can join other like-minded individuals in preserving the environment. The experience also enabled me to develop a positive attitude towards the environment. I discovered that I should make efforts toward reducing waste and cleaning the environment.
* Environmental Awareness
I learned that I can participate in preserving the environment. This was my first time to actively take part in an initiative aimed at reducing waste. Given that I stay in an apartment, I did not think that there was anything I could do to reduce waste. However, I discovered that making efforts towards reducing waste at an individual level is important. I was encouraged that I could make a contribution to reducing waste. I learned that I can participate in making efforts towards protecting the environment by minimizing the waste I generate at home.
Furthermore, I discovered that there are many individuals and organizations devoted to protecting the environment. Initially, I did not expect that there are so many individuals and organizations who are devoted to protecting the environment. When I volunteered in the cleaning exercise in my neighborhood, I met other individuals who were passionate about managing waste. Seeing such a large number of people come together for the sake of the environment was overwhelming for me. I realized that so many people and organizations are concerned about managing waste. For instance, my donation to the Ontario Waste Management Association would go a long way in assisting the organization to achieve its purpose.
