Then, write a 2-4-page paper and select one of the two assignment options to accompany your paper:
Answer the following questions:
Although there were some legal ramifications for what Hooters did, were the actions toward the waitresses also unethical?
Were the waitresses lied to? If so, is lying to employees unethical?
What about the motivating strategy of allowing employees to rip the shirts of other employees off? Is humiliating employees ethical?
How is it ethical to promise money or other compensation to students for studying hard? What if the losing students actually studied harder than the winner, but the winner only did well because he/she happened to be brighter? How would giving that student the money be fair to the students who studied harder?
The motivation techniques had the desired results by increasing sales or decreasing the use of paper, but how does that outweigh any negative consequences of such motivators?

Ethics of Motivation Strategies Student Name Institutional Affiliation Ethics of Motivation Strategies Employees are the most valuable asset any company has. They are responsible for undertaking daily activities which assist organizations to achieve their goals. In order to enable workers to give the best, employers need to identify means of motivating their workers. While motivation is critical, organizations should be careful to avoid negative implications associated with various forms of motivation. The actions toward Ms. Berry were unethical. It was unethical for the hotel to promise the waitress a Toyota car, then instead give her a Star Wars toy Yoda doll. The waitress put in extra effort since she wanted to get the car. The hotel had not informed her that eventually, they will offer a toy. Furthermore, presenting a toy to the waitress indicated that the hotel did not value her services. The move showed that the waitress was simply a means to an end for the hotel. It was hence unethical for Hooters to take for granted the services of the waitress. Hooters lied to the waitress that they will give her a Toyota car and instead presented her with a toy. From the start, the management made it clear that the competing waitresses were supposed to win a Toyota automobile. Ms. Berry worked hard to become the winner since she knew she had a chance of getting a car. However, the management lied to her by failing to deliver the automobile as required. It is unethical for employers to lie to their employees. Employers are expected to meet their promises to their workers (Fu & Cheng, 2014). It is unethical to promise something to employees and willfully fail to deliver it. The motivating strategy of allowing employees to rip the shirts of other employees was also unethical.
