Entrepreneurship among Engineers: Article Summary
Entrepreneurship has become a major and much needed skill in the job market today. This is mainly because many students are interested in becoming entrepreneurs rather than relying on employment. As such, entrepreneurial intention has increased among students in different fields. In this article, Barba-Sánchez and Atienza-Sahuquillo (2018) argue that the current high rate of unemployment has partly contributed to the labor market requiring multidisciplinary engineers who have additional skills besides engineering. As a result, engineering education currently faces new challenges such as the need to ensure that engineers are equipped with greater skills in entrepreneurship. Although entepreneurship has already been integrated in the curriculum for new engineering courses, there is a need to evaluate whether or not this is enough to promote entrepreneurship skills among engineers.
