You have been asked to consider all energy options and determine the best way to spend the initial budget. You can choose more than one option to address the city’s energy needs. Be careful to remember this system will need to support the city as the population grows.
Your initial first year budget: $10 billion
Budget for every following year: $1 billion
Energy needed to power metropolitan area: 3,000 Megawatts
Energy Source Initial Cost to Setup Energy Production Monthly Cost Energy Output Limit
Nuclear Plant
$6 billion $1.5 million 1,000 Megawatts
Coal Fired Power Plant
$1.3 billion $2 million 1,000 Megawatts
Wind Power
$3 billion $500,000 1,000 Megawatts
Geothermal
$3 billion $500,000 1,000 Megawatts
Hydroelectric
$350 million $500,000 1,000 Megawatts
Solar Power
$3.5 billion $300,000 1,000 Megawatts
Natural Gas
$1.5 billion $1,000,000 1,000 Megawatts
Write a word proposal with introduction and conclusion.
Include
• a breakdown of the energy resources your city will use.
o Explain why you chose these resources.
o Include a chart detailing your budget breakdown used to determine your energy proposal.

Energy sources are critical to the development of an area, but the cost implication and safety concerns need to be taken into account when choosing the different energy sources alternatives. Renewable energy has increasingly become an alternative source, as technology evolves and reduces the costs of these energy sources. As such, the need to limit environmental pollution is one of the factors that are advanced for the need to adopt more renewable energy sources. This energy planning proposal highlights on the pros and cons of hydroelectric power, nuclear energy and wind power, it also address how population influences the plan.
The energy proposal takes into account energy needs and changing demographics over time in the metropolitan areas given that cities typically attract more people over time. The use of nuclear and hydroelectric power is the main sources of energy and to a lesser extent wind energy. Coal and petroleum were left out because the metropolitan areas might not adequately deal with pollution. in any the fossil fuels are unlikely to be sustainable although they are the main sources of energy in the U.S.

Renewable energy sources
As a renewable energy source hydroelectricity is non-polluting compared to the fossil fuels, but polluting mainly at the construction phase of dams. At the same time, it is reliable unless the water output falls dramatically, it can be relied upon even with a population increase (Gibson, 2011). Nonetheless, there is a need to build more dams if the population increases rapidly, but then there is also a challenge of selecting the best place for which to build the dams given the lack of space near cities to build suitable reservoirs.
There is controversy on whether nuclear energy is a renewable source, but the...
