The Deming Philosophy
Dr. Edward Deming coined the 14 points model of quality management that highlight the procedures for good management practices. The 14 points are like the 10 commandments which requires managers to adopt to be successful. The model is designed to bring complete transformation and quality into management. Below is the detailed discussion of the Deming’s 14 Points.
1 Develop Constancy of Purpose
The aim should always be to improve. An organization is expected to plan for quality in the long term rather than making hasty adjustments at the end of the production process. For companies to become competitive, they ought to practice constant improvement in products and services to improve their competitive advantage and constancy in the mode of business operation (Lindsay, 2016).
2 Adopt New Philosophy
Adopting the new philosophy calls for managers to make quality a first priority in the organization. At this point, a firm has to prioritize the needs of their customers instead of placing much focus on how to tackle pressure from competition. The management should focus on leading than just managing as this helps businesses to develop effective changes (Lindsay, 2016). The concept here is about developing quality strategies and vision and implement it.

An organization should stop relying on inspection as a way of promoting quality since the procedure is costly and unnecessary. Instead of improving quality, inspection merely points out lack of quality. Managers are advised to install the culture of quality from start to finish. To achieve this, managers are advised to employ the use of statistical control techniques alongside physical control to ensure all process are working in order (Evans, 2016).
4 End Lowest Tender Contract
Consistency is a major determinant of quality, and it is important since it reduces variations of the inputs to have consistency in the output. Reducing the lowest tender contract is all about using a single supplier (Evans, 2016). Firms are also encouraged to treat suppliers as equal partners who are also striving to achieve consistency in quality from their side. Analyzing the suppliers’ cost and quality to the business helps in selecting the best supplier.
5 Constantly Seek Out Problem.
Businesses are supposed to look for ways that will constantly improve their general performance. Regular checks for inefficiency and problems is essential to have the smooth running of systems and processes (Folsom & Boulware, 2014). With the aid of Kaizen model, businesses can employ strategies that minimize waste, maximizes productivity and improve safety and efficiency.
6 Institute Training on Job
Training and development are necessary to bring all employees on board. The workforce should embrace training as part of organizational culture as it will facilitate the introduction and implementation of new ideas easily. Precisely, training is important because it estab...
