Introduction
This paper seeks to comprehensively evaluate the style of leadership to the form of the behavioural model used by our community club coach, Danny Hoghes. Applying the Burns model of transformational leadership, it is proposed that Hoghes is one of the transformational leaders in our society. This research paper will research on the cognitive and also the behavioural characteristics of Danny Hoghes as a great leader that we see.
Discussion and Analysis
Danny Hoghes has grown as the most recognised figures in our community. As a player, he played for various clubs such as the Racing club. Regardless of the fact that he was not such a sensational player, he usually indicated that he was fascinated with different football tactics. This is an obsession that led him to coaching. His first team to coach was RC Homeboys where in his last years as a player he usually coached the reserve team before becoming the head coach of the youth set up. He later received a contract to manage Grampus FC and is now the manager of our community club FC.
Danny Hoghes’ success has to some extent been realised at the expense of the society as a whole and the expense of each and every fan of our community club. Additionally, it has also been achieved at the expense of his predecessors and due to that; soccer owes him a debt of gratitude. Hoghes was recorded as the first modern football manager bringing the team up to the top place in our league. Although he was not that much innovative on techniques, it was Hoghes who embedded discipline of diet and physical exercise that is usually applied by today’s footballers.
The stereotype about Danny Hoghes is that he is specific and clinical. However, in his recently released autobiography, "King Maker" the author typically singles out for praise Hoghes’ management skills. He is a listener and also cares a lot about the players.
The leadership concept has developed and transformed to a better perspective with time. Although leadership and management overlap, they are two different concepts .Management can be described as the process used to direct a certain group of individuals to undertake and complete a task considering the principles and values that have been established.
Leadership, on the other hand, is concerned with the development of the values through vision establishment and provision of inspirations together with a motivation of the people who follow them. This helps us focus on the Danny Hoghes leadership skills and characteristics and analyse his behavioural and cognitive traits in regards to transformational leadership.
Burn’s (1978) model of transformational leadership is usually formed by transactional leadership and puts more emphasis on maintaining stability and exploitation of knowledge from those within the group. The concept also suggests that under the transactional leadership followers are usually motivated through punishment or rewarding them based on individual efforts.
