Computer Networks
Computer networks describe the collection of computers used to communicate with other computers over a transmission line. According to Kroenke (2015), the three basic types of computer networks are local area networks (LAN), Wide area network (WAN), and the internet.
Local area networks (LAN)
Local area networks connect computers within one specific location; the computer can range from two to hundreds of computers. Using local area networks, communication lines can be placed anywhere the organization might feel would be appropriate. Local area networks are connected to one site, which is usually located within half a mile. Its properties are controlled by the company’s operating network and, where necessary, a company can use cables or network interface cards, the hardware that connects communication devices to the cable (Kroenke, 2015).
