I took the time to analyze my values, skills, personality and strengths. This was actually the first time for me to do such a detailed analysis of myself. I enjoyed a lot undertaking the tests and analysis. It was an opportunity for me to discover the kind of person I am. While I have done an analysis of myself in the past, it was not as detailed as this particular one. Here, I as in a position to undertake a self-analysis from multiple viewpoints. This was critical considering that such a multi-dimensional approach reflects better who I am. The information and activities were an eye-opener especially in my future career. Given that a career is something that will occupy a large portion of my life, it is worthy to take time and doing an analysis to determine a suitable career. Indeed, undertaking the activities assisted me to identify the careers that are more suitable for me in the future. Further, since I do not have close family members with the careers I have chosen, the analysis and information will allow me to make a better decision regarding my future career.
The first career choice is a nursing practitioner (NP). In the U.S., NPs are licensed to offer specialized care to patients. They can prescribe medication, examine patients, offer treatment, and diagnose illnesses as physicians do in states where allow them. Hence, NPs are critical in the healthcare system because they offer a holistic approach. The career requires at least a masters’ degree to practice. The values of love, care, concern, and empathy are a good match for a career in nursing. Nurses deal with patients, which requires them to have a set of values that I possess. Being skilled in problem-solving and negotiation will assist me to deal with issues in the healthcare setting. I will be able to address challenges from patients which is a match for a career in nursing. One of my strengths is empathizing with the conditions of people. I am in a position to understand the situations that others are going through. My strength is an added advantage to the profession. Being an extrovert may not be a good match for a career in nursing. I can appear to patients as a person who is unable to listen and understand others’ points of view.
