According to Cody, Kreulen, Krishna, and Spangler (2002) “Enterprise executives understand that timely, accurate knowledge can mean improved business performance”. And, in order to be accurate as possible in terms of information acquisition and dissemination, faulty data must be avoided from entering the system. However, despite the seemingly easy task of keeping information systems free from tiny error, through the use of thorough and careful bookkeeping, accounting, sales reports, and performance metrics, among others, small errors could easily go unnoticed and accumulate, which in turn, could present huge difficulties on the part of the company. The solution to these probable losses attributed to faulty information, then, lies mostly in a manager’s ability to prevent and mitigate errors in the “knowledge creation process” (Nonaka and Takeuchi, 1995; as cited by Helle, 2012). In line with this prevention method, a manager should take the first step through the process of “Data quality management” which entails the “establishment and deployment of roles, responsibilities, policies, and procedures concerning the acquisition, maintenance, dissemination, and disposition of data” (Geiger, n.d.). Data quality management includes a structuring (or re-structuring) of the organization where different departments could work together efficiently to acquire data, verify that it is true, and also store it safely for future references. In the example given by Geiger (n.d.), he stated a partnership between the business sectors of an organization as well as the technological sectors, where the first one is responsible for acquiring and verifying that the information are true, while the technological sector makes sure that these data are properly gathered, stored, and disseminated to the appropriate parts of the whole organization.
