Organizations and their management systems have existed for years, and several theories attempt to explain organization composition. Contemporary approach is one of the approaches that explain how organizations can be managed. Contemporary theory of organization management analyzes organization as structures that need to conform to the changing environment. Therefore, organizations are viewed as structures where individuals interact with others objectively. Contemporary theory of organization management emphasizes on communication dynamics and how, individuals integrate to meet organization’s interest (Bouillon, 2010).
Contemporary approach examines both individual and group behavior and it is categorized into four areas; socio-technical systems, quantitative management, organization behavior and system theory. Socio-technical theory involves the combination of workers forming the socio system, their knowledge, and training tools as some of the most important consideration for organizations to operate effectively in meeting customers’ needs (Campbell, & Rolland, 2005). This theory includes enriching, broadening, and transforming technology to users as being important in organization management. Socio-technical theory believes that every organization comprises of people, technical systems and environment for production of goods to take place (Singh & Chhabra, 2000).
Quantitative management theory represents one of the contemporary management approaches that prioritize arithmetical analysis in decision-making. This type of theory works best in internal competitive and macro-environment because it uses data to perform a comprehensive analysis from competitive and macro environments (Stager-Roy, 2007).
