1. Referencing the material from anti-trust and the Federal Trade Commission material - do you think Luxottica's actions should be regulated and changed? (I'm not looking for waxing poetic about big political concepts - instead, focus in on the view and information given out by the CollegeHumor site, which implies that Luxxotica is dominating the industry, versus the statement in the article that Luxxotica perhaps only accounts for 10% of the sales in the United States.)

2. Many of you have probably heard of entities like Warby Parker. Watch this 2-minute video on the Business Insider site entitled "Meet the founders of Warby Parker, the eyewear company disrupting the highly secretive Luxottica monopoly." Both the CollegeHumor’s video “The Conspiracy Behind Your Glasses” and Kim Lacapria’s article “Does Luxottica Own 80% of the Eyeglass Industry?” depict that Luxottica has the largest market share in the eyeglass industry. In particular, Luxottica’s actions need to be regulated and changed. Although there is no proper evidence that the company owns 80% of the eyewear market, Luxottica has buyouts and mergers with major brands in the eyeglass sector (CollegeHumor, 2016). Some of its brands are DKNY, Vogue, Ray-Ban, Oakley, Burberry, Anne Klein, Versace, Ralph Lauren, and Polo. Moreover, Luxottica controls various retail shops such as Target Optical, LensCrafters, Sears Optical, and Pearle Vision (Lacapria, 2016). If this company is not regulated, it will monopolize the eyewear market, which might jeopardize the quality of the products it offers. Consequently, the monopoly violates consumers’ protection rights.
In the age of companies like Warby Parker and Luxottica and the rise of the Internet, I believe that firms should be regulated. When one firm owns various brands and retail stores, such as Luxottica, it controls the price and might establish obstacles to minimize new market entrants. In other words, its competitors are forced to follow the firm’s footsteps, which limits their growth (Bobkoff, 2015). Specifically, the Internet has made it easy for many organizations to reach their customers in different parts of the world.
